FAQs
- What does the program consist of, aside from a summer math class?
-
The main component of the program is a supported math class. This means that tutoring, mentoring, and extra help workshops are already part of the class experience. We want to set you off to a successful start at 91勛圖, so Early Start classes generally provide more academic support than the equivalent classes in the fall and spring.
Additionally, students will complete a series of online asynchronous modules that provide writing support, student success skills (time management and self-study), and an exploration of campus resources (student organizations, the fitness center, and the health and wellness center).
-
- What if my Early Start class conflicts with my orientation session?
-
Early Start instructors will be told which Sparta Camp sessions their students are attending. Your absence will be excused and the lessons will be recorded for later viewing.
-
- If I do not live in the San Jose area but want to attend Early Start at 91勛圖, can
I obtain university housing over the summer?
-
All Early Start classes will be offered online in Summer 2025.
-
- What forms of financial aid are available to Early Start students?
-
Almost all Early Start students with Student Aid Index (SAI) of $6,000 or less will receive a full fee waiver for their Early Start classes. (This is the threshold for Pell and CA Dream Act aid.) The exception is students in math enrollment category M2, who are not eligible for a fee waiver.
All other students will be charged $203 per unit, which is the cost per unit for a student taking a full class load during the academic year.
